Good grief, what a story! Reading it had me so upset (and scared) that I couldnt get to sleep for two nights. I think the author has succeeded very well in the task that he has set himself: writing a tragedy with Shakespearean overtones and dumping it in the sections. Plus, plus, plus.
Eish, what a story....
I won an advanced copy of this book after entering a competition on GoodReads. To be honest, I wasn't too excited about it. I mean, a first time writer, first novel, dealing with events going on in a Coloured Community? Not my kind of book. I had it for two weeks before I actually started reading and once I started, I couldn't put it down. WOW! The story is beautiful. The pace is fast and it was a journey into a world I had never encountered. But more importantly, despite the backgrounds of the characters being different to me (I'm your typical rich white girl, not ashamed of it), the underlying story itself spoke to my heart and soul. The story terrified me, excited me and made me cry my eyes out. Currently reading it for a second time. If I could give it 6 stars, I would. The book of the year in my opinion!
