Hoop-net fishing was not vigorously carried on as fishermen preferred sailing on the lakes, wages being more remunerative. Angling and trolling for bass on the waters set apart was better than for several years past. Several sportsmen from across the boundary visited the grounds. Mr. Merritt thinks it might be advisable to issue a limited number of net fishing licenses for the inland waters of his district, so as to cpeck the rapid increase of coarse fish, which are very destructive to the finer grades 0 fish. Overseer P. Kiel who has charge of the fishing grounds around Wolfe Island reports fish of all kinds plentiful. The fishing season proved rather stormy, other wise the catch of salmon trout around Pigeon Island would have been larger, as these fish were reported abundant in that vicinity.
