Now select the best male from Group No. 8 and the females from Group No. 6, and produce Group No. 11, which contains one-half the blood of each of the original pailr. This is the third step and the seventh mating in securing complete breeding of a new strain. We now come to a point where we wish to establish a male line whose blood is virtually the same as that of the original female. To accomplish this select a male from Group No. 6 and mate him to the female of Group No. 4 and produce Group No. 9, which is thirteen-sixteenths the blood of the original female No. 1 and three-sixteenths the blood of the original male. Again select a male from Group No. 9 and a female from Group No. 11, which will produce Group No. 14, which is twenty-one thirty-seconds the blood of the original female. Now mate a male from Group No. 13, which is thirteensixteenths the blood of the original male No. 2, to the females of Group No. 10, which are five-sixteenths the blood of the original male, and produce Group No. 17, which is nine-sixteenths the blood of the said male, while in No. 16 we have the new strain, and in Group No. 18 the strain of our original male.
