Early Childhood Settings and Approaches DVD (DVD-ROM)

Appropriate for Introduction to Early Childhood, Curriculum in Early Childhood, Practicum/Student Teaching in Early Childhood, or Issues/Models in Early Childhood courses. This DVD consists of 8 video segments filmed in 2005 in various early childhood centers and schools in the Miami, Florida area. Each segment, ranging in length from 7 to 9 minutes each, shows diverse groups of children engaged in learning. Focusing on children's learning, the teacher's role in the classroom, and interactions among children and teachers, each video illustrates key concepts found in early childhood courses, such as theories in practice, curriculum approaches, classroom routines, materials, teacher-child interactions, teacher-parent interactions, and unique issues associated with each setting or approach. The purpose is to give novices the opportunity to "see" what they are "reading" about in their coursework and gain a deeper understanding of their role as a teacher and the developmental needs of young children. Each setting or program is explored individually, with occasional references to similarities or shared theoretical underpinnings between approaches.
