The Adventures of Selah and Grandpa Shingi (Paperback)

From Ancient Africa comes a story you will never forget..."Imagine the most beautiful pools covering thousands of kilometers. Pools of various shapes and sizes. When the pools are still, the dominant color of the water they hold is blue. When the pools stir; they become mysterious and the water changes colors from blue, to red, to green. The pools are most beautiful when they hold all colors. Open your eyes Selah and look " Grandpa Shingi removed his hands from her eyes. Selah squealed delightedly."This is the best birthday gift ever Grandpa Thank you so much. Can I feel the water?" "Yes go ahead. These pools hold the secrets to everything. The pools have been around for so long there is nothing they don't know." Grandpa Shingi chuckled. Selah knelt besides the pool and ran her fingers in the water. She giggled. "Look Grandpa, the water painted my nails blue, redand green." "Yes isn't that lovely?" "Yes Oh my I see some goldfish swimming in there. I wonder how the water tastes." "You can't drink that water Selah. Not yet. One day perhaps when you need it." "Grandpa how come we have never come to these pools? I can't wait to tell everyone when we get back home " "Selah, today you are ten years old and that is why I brought you here. Even if you tell everyone about the pools they won't believe you. Very few people know about them." "I get it These pools are magical and so we have to keep them a secret." Selah ran to hergrandpa and hugged him. "I love you so much and thank you for bringing me here. Does grandma know you brought me here?" "Actually, it was her who reminded me to bring you here." Grandpa Shingi winked. It made him sad to know Selah was an orphan. Both her parents died before sheturned two and she had no memory of them. "Happy birthday cousin "A thirteen year old boy Tinashe called as he jumped from a nearby bush and joined them. "Selah a message arrived from the palace. They need you to report for duty right now." "Why it's my birthday today I don't want to work on my birthday. Everyone is so mean to me at that palace." Selah sulked. "You don't have a choice in this matter I am afraid." Grandpa Shingi reminded her softly. "Today is the rainmaking ceremony." "Grandpa, this isn't fair " Selah fumed."If you do go to work, I will bring you back to the pools as soon as I can." "How about tomorrow?" "Tomorrow it is." "Oh if the princess knew these pools existed she could probably move them into her back yard." Selah observed. Tinashe giggled. "You are right. How very selfish the princess is " Grandpa asked. "Tinashe will you escort her to the palace now?" "I certainly will." "How come you don't have to work at the palace?" Selah asked not for the first time. "Everyone knows I work for Grandpa." "Doing what?" Selah challenged. "You two better get going, or else you will be running late." Grandpa warned. "Bye Grandpa thanks for the gift." Selah waved. Grandpa proudly watched his grandchildren as they left.
