I am so glad I invested in this paper- thank you to Loot for carrying art products of such a high standard. I had favourable results on Clairefontaine Pastelmat with Unison Colour soft pastels and a very old set of Rowney soft pastels (before they became Daler Rowney). The tooth is really so soft, is gentle on the fingers and holds pastels as promised. Lovely for detailed work but I also achieved soft blends and layers. The protective sheet is a great bonus and there is a lovely selection of warm and cool paper colours. Only one side of the paper is suitable for pastels, but you can aparently wash the pastel off if you want to start over. I'm keen to try watercolour underpainting particularly on the white paper. This is ideally for professional artists but it is lovely for people who would like to try pastels but want to limit contact with dust and for artists or art students new to pastels who want to see if they will enjoy working with this medium. Worth the investment. I have purchase a cheaper pastel paper for pastel sketches and preliminary drawings and keeping Pastelmat for artwork.
