Not illustrated. 1917 Excerpt: ...as often as may be necessary until the subjects be reported on and the Committees discharged from the consideration of them 281 A Resolution (respecting the Defence of the City) was presented by Alde" Wendover and referred to the Committee of Defence The following Resolution was presented by Mr Bracket In testimony of the high sence entertained by the Common Council of the gallantry & skill of Commodore Wm Bainbridge and his officers and Crew on board the United States Frigate Constitution in the late capture and destruction of His Britanic Majesty's Frigate. the Java; whereby new laurels have been acquired by our gallant navy; and a new instance afforded of the practical utility of that kind of defence, for the protection and encouragement of the important commercial interests of our Country: therefore Resolved, that the freedom of the City in a gold Box be presented to Commodore Bainbridge, and that his portrait be obtained and set up in the Gallery of portraits belonging to this City: And that the thanks of the Common Council be presented to his officers and crew who were engaged in this achievement so honorable to themselves and the nation 282 Upon the motion of the Recorder, Resolved that it be referred to the Committee on Surveys to consider how far under the peculiar circumstances of the case of John A Graham Esqr whose grounds are included in the reservation upon the Commissioners Map for the Grand Parade, it would be proper upon sufficient security being offered to loan to said Graham a sum of money, and to what amount such loan should be made, and that the Committee report at the next meeting of the Board Agreably to the order of last Meeting the law for regulating Hackney coaches and Carriages, was called up. considered, amended and fina...
