Very good, but...
Sat, 17 Oct 2015 | Review by: Gustav S
The Loot experience: the good and the bad, but no ugly: excellent service as always: product delivered a day before estimated delivery date and that was with the public holiday also in the mix.
The bad: the product descriptions are lacking in detail as are the pictures together with the picture quality of the product.
I use it for typing. Not for gaming.
And as far as typing is concerned: the MX Brown Cherry keys are incredibly accurate and fast. Working on client server connections where internet connectivity plays a role when typing: and oft times key presses get "missed": on this keyboard: what you type gets sent through irrespective of the internet connection speed to the client where you're working (and unfortunately typo's as well :) ).
As a productivity aid in this regard: it is of immense value.
What does it feel like: consider that rubber-dome keyboards are rated for 10million key-presses, and the MX Cherry key switches at 50million: there is no comparison.
The MX Cherry switches win hands down every time...every key press.
Construction: is of high quality. There is a minimalist perspective as well. It doesn't look like something that got lost from a starship flight deck. It looks like a keyboard...because it is a keyboard. With the backlighting switched off (Corsair provides a very handy key for that on the board itself) it wouldn't be given a second glance.
Improved Accuracy: for the few days that I "test drove" it at work: I developed a sense that once it was no longer there and I had to start working on my well-worn but still working well(ish) HP notebook's keyboard my improved typing accuracy would be undone. Interestingly enough, this is not the case. Even on the HP's keyboard which is quite horrible, I still type better. Chalk it up to transference makes sense: you type more properly on the mechanical, you end up typing more properly on any keyboard.
Now for the "But..."
This ties in with my criticism of Loot's production descriptions lack of detail:
Yes, the keyboard has a built-in USB port, which is pretty awesome yes? Yes it is and no it isn't.
The keyboard cable is thick. And it has to be because there is not 1 but 2 USB connectors. One to make the keyboard work. The other to make the built-in USB port work.
The trade-off is fine, unless your notebook or desktop has USB3.0 ports: then it is a sacrifice because the built-in USB port on the keyboard is USB2.0. And 2 of your USB3.0 ports are going end up being "sacrificed". If your rig has 8 USB ports: then this shouldn't pop up on your radar, but if like me, you're on a notebook with only 4 USB ports...then keep it in mind.
If you don't mind foregoing the built-in USB port, well, if you're a bit of a neat-freak, the unconnected connector is just "in the way" and looks "wrong".
All of this adds to the Corsair Strafe not being portable. The cable doesn't bend, you've got the 2 connectors at the end...somehow for what they tried to achieve (and in so many ways they really got it 5 out of 5, on the cable and built-in USB port...they didn't.
In conclusion, was it worth shelling out R1700 for a keyboard? Yes it was. Yes it is. Could Corsair have made it a 5 star review...they so very nearly did, but then they fumbled with the cable.

Service from loot was excellent in delivering. I'm enjoying the keyboard a lot so far and typing feels excellent. The keycaps have a soft matte finish which feels smooth and doesn't attract fingerprints or grease. The keyboard itself is very weighty and sturdy, and doesn't bend or flex at all. As for the switches, the Cherry MX Browns have a slight bump and low actuation pressure, a satisfying experience to work on. I highly recommend it.
