David O'Bannon returns home to Saint Louis after an eight year stint of service in the Navy. With the economy in recession, he can find no job higher than that of a local hardware store manager. Reluctantly accepts his fate--until he begins dating the woman of his dreams. In desperation, David returns to a career he had inadvertently ventured upon earlier in life.
