AR 670-1 1981 (Obsolete) - Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia (Paperback)

This regulation prescribes the uniforms which may be worn, the items which maybe worn on the uniforms, the manner in which the uniforms are worn, and the occasions when the uniforms will or will not be worn for all personnel in the US Army. This regulation also prescribes the authorized material, design, accessories, and quality control system for uniforms and the wear of ornamentation, insignia, and other heraldic items. Only uniforms, accessories, and insignia prescribed in this regulation, as approved by Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA) or contained in cur-rent authorization documents, will be worn by personnel in the US Army. No item governed by this regulation may be altered in any way that changes the design or intent of the item beyond variances authorized by the specifications. Illustrations in this regulation are furnished for information purposes only. In case of any inconsistencies between the written description and the illustration, the written description shall control. The wear of optional uniform items will be at the discretion of the individual. Commanders will not require the purchase of optional items unless specifically directed otherwise by HQDA.
