Other books on using art therapy with groups have concentrated on practical issues. In
Group Interactive Art Therapy, Diane Waller presents the first theoretical formulation of a model which effectively integrates the change-enhancing factors of both group psychotherapy and art therapy and then shows the model in practice through a series of illustrated case histories. These emphasise the adaptability of the model for use with trainees from different backgrounds (medicine to art) and clients (from more or less well functioning adults to people with mental handicaps). The author draws on her experience of helping to establish art therapy services and training in Britain, Bulgaria, Italy, Hungary, Greece and Jugoslavia to give her book a multi-cultural dimension, in the firm belief that therapists need to be aware of their own cultural and racial biases.
