Excerpt: ... The Seven-day Division *** *** As far as we have been able to ascertain, the first Wisconsin cow to be officially tested in the seven-day division was Johanna 5th (9343). This cow was tested by John Decker and belonged to Gillett and Son of Rosendale. The date of this test was from - July 2 to July 8th 1894. Her record for the week was 592.1 lbs. milk containing 17.64 lbs of fat. Calculated on the usual 80$ fat basis this meant 22.05 lbs. of butter. This was the first official record made in Wisconsin. Johanna 5th was thus the first cow to hold an official state record. Sleven world records, five of which were in the junior two-year-old class, have been made in this division. One still stands as a state record. This is the record of 30.611 lbs. of butter made by Molly Johanna Korndyke as a senior twoyear-old. During the twenty-five years of testing there has been e stablished a total of sixty-two.- different state records in the seven-day division. This is a greater number than have been made in any other division. There are two principal reasons for this, first, - more cows have been tested in this division and second, - this is the oldest officially recognized test. Fifty-six, different cows have made these records. One cow, Colantha 4th, held four different seven-day records at different ages. In 1895, she held the record as a senior two-year-old; in 1896, as a senior three-year-old; in 1897 stoe * * held the first state record ever held by a senior four-year-old. Two years later, in 1899, she captured the state record as a mature cow. Three other cows have each held two seven-day butter records. Johanna 5th's Clothilde, in 1894, as a senior two-yearold, and a year later as a senior three-year-old held the first state records in both of these classes. In the l...
