Dylans Run (DVD)

In 1998 Dylan Glenn ran for a Congressional seat in Southwest Georgia, aiming to upseat the long-time Democrat incumbent Stanford Bishop. Glenn is young, ambitious, handsome, charismatic, and deeply committed to the ideals of the Republican party. And he's African American. Follow him on the primary campaign trail as he seeks to become the first Black Republican elected to Congress from the Deep South since Reconstruction. Along the way meet his campaign manager, his mostly white campaign team, black converts to his cause, and his primary opponent, Joe McCormick--a local businessman whose own future takes a surprising turn in this unpredictable and fascinating documentary.

The film provides an inside look into the obstacles faced by a candidate running a modern campaign in the New South. Witness Dylan as he navigates his way through the shifting political and economic alliances, the necessity of constant fundraising, the pitfalls of negative campaigning, and the undercurrent of racial tension. His mission takes him to Washington where he encounters such Republican stalwarts as Newt Gingrich, Mary Matalin, and J.C. Watts, the only Black Republican Congressman.

As election results come in, Dylan's journey draws to a close in a race that is emblematic of a very strange political season.
