Low-profile CIA trouble-shooter, Vince Carrigan, lives in the Washington, D.C. suburbs with his wife and four children, a lace where many other intelligence operatives also live. Inadvertently, or so it seems, Carrigan finds himself embroiled in intrigue involving a colleague and neighbor, Paul Dougan, a long-time Agency employee. Dougan gets caught up in personal problems with the Agency and his own wife, who is having an affair with a neighbor. Unbeknownst to her, the man is an IRA agent interested in blackmailing her husband. Carrigan gets drawn in when the Agency decides to bring in a "Company hit man" to eliminate "the problem.
