Not my favorite Pixar film. Some funny parts but not as good as Madagascar for example. Disappointing actually.

Produced by Pixar and released by Walt Disney Studios, UP - an animated comedy adventure yarn - is truly worthy of all the high acclaim it continues to receive. Although voiced by Edward Asner: the resemblance of the story's main character, Carl Frederickson, to old-time movie actor Spencer Tracy, is largely intentional! Now a crusty 78-year-old man, a brief resume of his life is cleverly told without dialogue in the opening few minutes of the picture - and we get a moving insight of how much influence his late wife, Ellie, had had on him over their years together. Incidentally, we never get to hear Ellie's voice as an adult. As with so many Pixar productions: there are so many subtleties in any of their given movies that it pays to do some Google homework on them. In this film, the baddie (voiced by celebrated Canadian actor, Christopher Plummer) is named Charles F Muntz - who is a kind of cross between Howard Hughes and Charles Lindburgh. Meanwhile, in real life, there was an animator named Charles B Mintz, who stole Walt Disney's first star animation character, Oswald the Rabbit... thus causing Mr Disney to invent the character that later became even more famous as Mickey Mouse! So even in death, Walter Elias Disney has his revenge! And as for the many crazy animated animals: we have a whole collection of dogs (including Dug, who is not the brightest canine on the planet); a strange but friendly large bird called Kevin... one could go on and on. But once you've seen it, I'm sure you'll do what I did: namely buy the DVD for your own private collection. It's worth every cent!
