I continued to talk to Jeff while watching them approach. Jaime, Will, and Slim edged back ever so slightly in their chairs, discretely shifting their weapons into ready position. Hank had gone to the john a few moments earlier and I saw him standing in the shadows just outside the entrance. He was watching their every move. Good deal, I thought, he has our backs covered. Donato was grinning as he stopped at our table and put his foot on Hank's empty chair. His heavy black mustache covered most of his upper lip, but his crooked yellow teeth sneered the malevolence that shone in his dark eyes. I took another taste of my drink and said nothing.
