Composers have been slow to recognise the full expressive potential of the modern value trumpet, and there is an unsatisfied appetite amongst trumpet players for solo music of a lyrical nature. Grieg's style is perfectly suited to adaptation for the Bb trumpet with piano accompaniment, and John Wallace's fine arrangement of the Lyric Pieces makes an invaluable contribution to the repertoire.
