Effect of Different Group of Pesticides on Lesser Grain Borer (Paperback)

,
Adults of Rhyzopertha dominica were treated by filter paper impregnation method with five doses of pesticides of different groups such as cypermethrin, lorsban, Acorus calamus extract, trend and shogun, and LC50 was calculated. Biochemical analysis revealed that after treatment with LC50 of pesticides, cypermethrin inhibited 80% alkaline phosphatase activity, lorsban 44.17%, A. calamus extract 49.87%, trend 25% and shogun inhibited 20% activity as compared to control. Acid phosphatase activity was inhibited upto 42.8%, 11.12%, 14.25%, 28.62% and 33%, respectively. Similarly, cholinesterase activity was inhibited upto 60%, 20%, 33.33%, 50% and 59.2%, respectively. Total protein content was inhibited i.e., 29.27%, 20.49%, 20.49%, 64.76% and 41.19%, respectively. Thin layer chromatography of protein metabolites of R. dominica was found to be slightly different in the treated and non-treated insect and change in the protein peptide pattern was observed. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis was also done for localization of protein bands in treated samples as compared to control. This information is useful for pest management worker and researchers in this field as well for teachers.
