Otakar Zich (March 25, 1879, M stec Kr lov - July 9, 1934 Oub nice u Bene ova) was a distinguished Czech composer and aesthetician. He was a pupil of the prominent nineteenth-century Czech aesthetician Otakar Hostinsk, and a prot g of the iconoclastic musicologist and critic Zden k Nejedl . In the years 1903-1906 he taught physics and mathematics at the High School in Doma lice. In the years leading up to the First World War Zich lived in Prague, actively participating in musical life as a critic. In this capacity he supported the efforts of Nejedl 's pro-Smetana faction against the intellectual descendants of Anton n Dvo k, especially during the so-called Dvo k Affair 1911-1914, when he called into question the artistic integrity of Dvo k's compositional language.
