Small Water Pollution Control Works - Design and Practice (Hardcover)

This work is concerned with small water pollution control works for populations of up to 5000 and highlights the particular characteristics of small installations and their problems. At the same time, much of the guidance provided is also relevant to larger works, and the information included on the development of sewage treatment processes and design criteria places the smaller plant in context.;The book covers the ground between largely empirical methods of conventional engineering design, and an understanding of the chemical, biochemical and biological processes which bring about purification. The design and other criteria which have evolved for small pollution control works, and the development of new methods of treatment, are shown to constitute a divergence for the mainstream of sewage treatment practice, and particular attention is paid to special factors, eg isolation, and to the extensive fluctuations in flow and load to which they are subjected.
