Cosmetics giant Estée Lauder began in 1946 with a line of four products manufactured by Lauder’s uncle and under the marketing genius of Joseph and Estée Lauder. As funds were limited early on, they grew their business through innovation and determination: Samples were given to customers before purchasing, they were tasteful and personal in their sales tactics, and they only sought the most prestigious of clients and accounts.
