The workshop assessed advances in smart materials and structures technology and develop synergies among researchers in different disciplines that will facilitate joint research projects. Specific focus was placed on integrating research and education, with two goals in mind - to better educate the next generation of engineers towards maximizing the advantages offered by smart structures technology, and to provide continued professional development for practicing engineers.
