and village in Midlothian, Scotland, on the River North Esk, nine
miles (14.5 kilometres) south of Edinburgh city centre, between
Dalkeith and Loanhead. Melville Castle lies to the north east. The
name Lasswade probably dervives from the Old English for laes -
meaning meadow and (ge)waed - meaning ford. The current Lasswade
Parish Church building was originally built for the former United
Presbyterian Church (later United Free Church), which became part
of the Church of Scotland in 192
