It also contains lymphocytes (thymocytes) that are often abundant and non- neoplastic. Thymoma is frequently encapsulated; but, when it is invasive, it is classified as malignant. Extrathoracic metastasis is rare. Malignant lymphomas that involve the thymus, such as lymphoblastic lymphoma and Hodgkin lymphoma (erroneously termed "granulomatous thymoma" in the past), should not be regarded as thymomas.
