This is a very lively account of the fortunes of the city of Delhi. Written in the form of a narrative story it traces the inception of the city and its progress under various dynasties. Starting with a short mythological sketch of the city, it starts its historical story from the invasion of Mahmud of Ghazvi from AD 1000 to AD 1030, on to the establishment of the Muslim rule in the years 1191-1206; then come the slave kings (1206-1287) and steadily it moves from 1290 to 1321; the Tughlak kings (1321-1388), the Lodis; and then to the establishment to the Mugal Dynasty by Babar; each Mugal king is discussed separately; Shivaji is also noticed as is the rise of the Sikhs and the decay of the Mugals. This book is meant for the general reader or anyone traveling to India and was first published in the years 1912.
