Sut John Stuart of Darnley, co. lienfrew, s. and h. of Sir Alexander S. of the same by Janet Hamilton, widow, da. and h. of Sir William Keith of Ualstouu, was Constable of the Scotch army in France, ami having greatly distinguished himself at the victory, 22 March 1421, over the English at Ueaugc' in Anjou received from Charles tho Dauphin (afterwards King Charles VII. of France) a grant of the Lordship of Aubiyny and Concrussault in the province of l3erri and subsequently, 142(J, the county of Evreux in the Duchy of descended (in the male line) from John, 1st Earl Cower, by his third wife, one of the coheirs of Tufton. (II) Catherine (2nd da. of Lord A ton), in. Sir Halph de Euro, whose representative (or eo representative) in 1885 was Sir Charles William Strickland of Boynton, Bart, through the family of Palmes; am) (ill) Elizalieth (3rd da.), m. firstly Sir William Playz, secondly John Conyers of Sokebourue, co. Durham, whose representative in 1885 was Lord Canioys, through the families of Conyers Talbot and Stonor. () As to the account of this or any other Barony by tenure see p. 167, note " a." Normandy. He wan Ambassador from France to Scotland in 1428, &c. He m. in 13H2 Elizabeth, da. ami coheir of Duncan, Eaiu, Of Lbnnox S. with whom ho acquired great part of the estates of that family. Ho d. 12 Feb. 1428-9 being Blain in an engagement near Orleans, ami was bur. in the Cathedral there. II. 1428-9.
