When the campaign was in swing, we urged Americans of German descent to aid the Loan, "not for hate of Germany, but for love of America." Unfortunately, our motto was not adopted by many committees. The appeal of most posters was to the baser passions rather than to the spirit of love. Now, as the Dial suggests, that the victory has been won, the Victory Loan should be the occasion for the exhibition of a new spirit if the League of Nations is to be worth the paper it is written on.
