Samantha Briggs conspires with police detective Nick Bonito in a scheme to get rid of his wife, Paula. During a heated argument in a New Jersey motel, Nick renders Paula unconscious after accidentally knocking her into the motel tub. Believing he has killed her, he carries through with his plan of a fake drowning and flees to Jacksonville, Florida, with Samantha. Paula is alive but suffering from amnesia due to a head injury during her fall. She and her sister Janine travel to Jacksonville for a vacation. Paula becomes involved with Nick, who has drastically changed his appearance and is unrecognizable to the women. The four are involved in murders being investigated by the police.
