Township of In 1864 the then owners of the property so charged being willing to redeem the EHand-cumrentcharge, bought a sum of 33/. 12s. 6d. Three per cent. Consols, which having been reet an' under an Order dated the 18th October 1864, transferred to the Official Trustees was Chamberby a further Order, dated the 4th November 1864, directed to operate as a final laine's redemption of the said yearly payment of 20s., and it was by the same order directed Cllit"T that the Official Trustees should remit the dividends on the said sum of Consols to the acting trustees, to be applied by them for the purposes of the said Charity. The dividends, since the conversion of Consols in 1888, amount to 18s. 4d. a year, and are duly remitted to the Rector and churchwardens. The Rector produced an account book in which the accounts of all the Charities that he administers are entered. The income of this Charity is divided equally among four widows resident in the modern town of Elland. on the 6th June in each year. A question was raised at the Inquiry whether by the "churchwardens" of Elland mentioned in the will were meant those only who were' formerly appointed for the township of Elland-cum-Greetland, or whether the term included chose who were appointed for all townships composing the parochial chapelry of Elland. An account book was produced by the rector, from which it appeared that in 1744, when the old method of appointing churchwardens was in force, the two churchwardens for Elland-cum-Greetland alone took part in the distribution. 2.
