Not illustrated. 1853 Excerpt: ...have no friends--try and improve the wicked, tell them of their sins, and how Christ has died for them--wipe the tears from the eyes of the fatherless children, comfort the lonely widow, and feed My lambs--teach My poor children--stand not idle, but work while life and health is given you; for the sun of life is fast setting, and the night of death is coming on, then only may you leave off working in My vineyard, and then you shall receive the promised reward for your work--salvation and happiness for ever, shall indeed be given to you, for the sake of My dear Son." Robert, are you and I standing idle--are we wasting our lives in pleasure, and idleness, or sin? God has given us our lifetime to work in, and that must not be wasted; for the penny is offered to all--salvation, forgiveness, and hea-ven, all may be ours, if we are labourers and servants of God; but if we are not doing so, it is an awful thought, that we must then be servants of sin, and of the devil. We may say, we are only amusing ourselves--that we have nothing to do, and so God cannot expect us to do any thing; but all this is wrong, there is work for all, for all the rich, and all the poor--for the young, and for the old--for the nobleman, and for the labourer--for the queen, and for the poor cottager in the smallest hut--all have their work assigned them to do; and let us, dear boy, every morning, upon our bended knees, ask God to show us what the work is, and to give us His blessed Spirit to help us to do that work; and each evening, when we feel we have left undone many things that we ought to have done, let us again, upon our bended knees, ask a God of mercy, but still a holy God, to forgive us, for having so weakly, and so poorly, done the work that He has given us to do.
