Set in the period before and during the American Civil War, this novella follows the life of a young girl, Ariana Bellamy. Raised by her slave owner father, she is indoctrinated with the values of the time: that slavery is the moral thing to do. It isn't until after a horrible accident that someone appears in Ariana's life who can change this. Her best friend Eddie changes her perception on life, but her society is determined that she should follow a predetermined life. Can Ariana escape?
