Gianluca Basile (born January 24, 1975 in Ruvo di Puglia, Italy) is an Italian professional basketball player. He is 192 cm tall (6 ft 3 in) and he weighs about 95 kg. He is considered to be one of the best 1990s and 2000s era Italian basketball players. He won the silver medal at the 2004 Olympics. He was also the captain of the Italian national team. He currently plays for Regal FCB. Basile excels in the role of point forward, and is a very effective three-point shooter. He invented and named the "tiro ignorante" ("ignorant shot"), a three-pointer shot in difficult conditions which surprises the opponent.
