He has had an extensive and varied general practice, has been counsel for numerous corporations, and has been engaged in most of the railroad litigation that has occurred in New Hampshire of late years. In 1861, he served in the Twelfth Vermont Regiment of Volunteers. He is a trustee of the Boston Public Library, and has been lecturer for several years in the Boston University Law School, on "Corporation and Railroad Law." He is the author of a number of pamphlets upon public questions.1 He is a son of the Rev. Josiah Henry and Martha Ellen (Danforth) Benton, of Vermont. Ancestry Tables 50. IX. 1016. Charles William Fox Catherine P. 50. VIH. 562, born in Nashua, N. H. A physician. Residence; Philadelphia. Mr. Fox received his degree of A.B. from Harvard College "as of the class of 1864," of which he was a member, but which he left in his sophomore year to enter the army. From September 12, 1862, until June 18, 1863, he served as a private in the Forty-fourth Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. On his return from the army, he entered the Berkshire Medical School at Pittsfield, Mass. He afterwards studied at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, the Bellevue Hospital Medical College, and at the Long Island College, from which he received the degree of M.D. in 1865. He was at once appointed house-surgeon at the Brooklyn City Hospital, where he remained a year, and then, in October, 1866, he sailed for Europe to further pursue his medical studies. He returned home in 1868, and in December, 1869, he opened an office in New York City. In November, 1870, he removed to Philadelphia, where he established himself in the practice of medicine.
