Thoreau is best known for his book Walden but many readers are unfamiliar with his essays on nature most of witch were rarely published during his lifetime. Excursions is a collection of nine essays and Emerson's eulogy essay on Thoreau. Henry David Thoreau was an author, poet, abolitionist, naturalist, tax resister, development critic, surveyor, historian, philosopher, and leading transcendentalist. He is best known for his book Walden, and his essay, Civil Disobedience, an argument for individual resistance to civil government in moral opposition to an unjust state.
