In accepting the two portraits, that of Mr. Joseph Pease, who was certainly one of the founders of this important borough, and the other of Mr. Fallows, our venerable friend, who is still working amongst us--(applause)--you will allow me to express our sincere thanks to all who have assisted in carrying out this appropriate part of the day's programme. (Cheers.) The Mayor a moment later turned to the assemblage and said: Before separating I must sincerely thank those who have taken the trouble in carrying out the whole programme throughout the day. To them all, on behalf of the Corporation, I tender our kindest and heartiest wishes. (Applause.) At the suggestion of the Mayor, three hearty cheers were then given for the Jubilee and the occasion, and " one more" was given for his Worship; and the daughters of Mr. C. F. H. Bolckow, led by the Sculptor, gracefully placed some floral wreaths, the product of their own hands, on the pedestal of the statue. Thus terminated this part of the day's proceedings. THE BANQUET. The appearance of the Eoyal Exchange on Thursday evening when the guests had assembled was one which will not be soon forgotten. Although there had been no attempt at decoration, several illuminated devices added a charm to the scene. The Mayor (Mr. Councillor Charles Willman) occupied the chair, and he was accompanied at the cross-table by the Mayoress, the Archbishop of York, Lord Frederick and Lady Cavendish, the Hon. J. C. Dundas, M.P., Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Milbank, M.P., Mr. H. Fell Pease, Lady Brassey, Mr. Carl Bolckow, Mr. J. Dent-Dent (Chairman of the North-Eastern Eailway Company), and Mr. John Lloyd Wharton (Chairman of the Durham Quarter Sessions). Mr. Joseph Cowen, M.P., was also present.
