The 272 establishments classed as "Eight leading industries" increased 26.22 per cent, the 463 establishments in "Other industries" 14.98 per cent, and "All industries" 21.74 per cent over 1897. explanatory: The eight industries, wherever presented in this report for the years 1895,1897 and 1899, represent 236 establishments, and have been selected for the reason that each industry is represented by over one million dollars of capital invested as reported for the year 1895; they include 69.93 per cent of the capital invested in all industries reported for that year. The same eight industries, wherever presented for the years 1897 and 1899 only, represent 272 establishments, and include 69.03 per cent of the capital invested in all industries for the year 1897.
