Not illustrated. 1865 Excerpt: ...opinion should be expressed by Government: --1st.--The style of railway to be adopted, -. whether a single or double line of rails, whether a tramway or a first class railway. 2nd.--The amount of the subsidy which Government are willing to give, and the terms on which it will be granted. I think it will be advisable at first only to construct the piece between Muttra and Kutchla Ghat, deferring the construction of bridges over the Jumna and Ganges till we see our way better. However, I should like you to express an opinion on this point. I presume' Government will have no objections to provide land free of charge to the Company. If you could furnish me with copies of any cross-sections of the Doab on this route, I should feel obliged. I believe such cross-sections exist in the Canal Office, Eoorkee. In the event of Government feeling disposed to make an offer, it will be necessary to furnish me with official introductions to the authorities at Home, and, if possible, to supply some reliable statistics on the trade on this route.
