MATRIC is a fast-growing non-profit research organization based in South Charleston, West Virginia. Opening in 2003 at the Small Business Incubator of the Charleston Area Alliance, MATRIC has expanded to more than 70 employees with offices in Morgantown and South Charleston, West Virginia, and Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Founded in 2003 by retired scientists from Dow Chemical's Union Carbide subsidiary, MATRIC was established along the lines of the Research Triangle Institute at Research Triangle Park, North Carolina to preserve the science and engineering talent recruited to the Charleston area by the chemical industry. MATRIC has emulated RTI by spinning off several companies and licensing new technologies to other companies, as well as completing several research projects for government agencies.
