It must have been a startling sight, when over the plains of Bethlehem; a sudden glory burst, and the songs of angels broke the silence of the night. We wonder not that the shepherds when they saw that blaze of glory, and heard those unearthly voices, were sore afraid. But an event had just taken place which filled all heaven with wonder, although it had long been expected there. God had often stooped before, but never so low as now. He had often displayed his love before, but had never given such a proof of it as now. Grace had shone forth in glory before, but never so gloriously as now. A work was wrought on earth, more wonderful than any that had ever taken place in heaven. The enraptured angels announced it to the shepherds, saying, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." Luke, ii. 10, 11. Here is, Fear Prohieited. Fear not, Shepherds, for nothing shall harmyou.
