The thermometer throughout the year, attains in the shade, the same medium temperature as in the West India Islands; and, when exposed by Mr. Beaver to the direct and reflected rays of the sun, on the 16th of January 1793, it rose in twenty minutes from 91 to 135. The following extracts are numbered, with a view to facility in reference, as they will be followed by such remarks as have sprung from an attentive consideration of this subject.
