RENA RINGLEADER THE RUMOR QUEEN is a story for children about rumors and how this type of bullying can be devastating to the victim, and to the "bully." Rumors are a constant problem for students, schools, and families, and this book cleverly shows how a child's feelings can instantly change after a vicious rumor is started. Discussion questions and activities are an extra bonus at the end of the story.
Rena, a young Hispanic girl, enjoys spreading rumors everyday at school while she believes that she is making herself look "cool." She loves to spread lies and humiliate her classmates One day after recess, Rena cannot believe her own ears when she learns that someone is spreading rumors about "her" family. She soon discovers how painful rumors can be, and how her friends have become her enemies. As Rena works through the process of changing her attitude and changing her habits, children will better understand the ugliness of spreading rumors and the consequences. Bonus activities are included so that all children will completely understand this message and practice treating each other with respect.
JANICE MCCURRY, a retired high school counselor, lives with her husband in Seguin, Texas. She is co-owner of Bustin'Bullies, an anti-bullying business that travels all over the state. Her passions are writing, painting, gardening and enjoying her nine grandchildren Her experiences as a counselor have inspired her to write this book that could make a difference in children's lives.
While Janice was a school counselor, she enjoyed all aspects of counseling. But the one thing that touched her heart was the hurt and rejection that many students felt because of bullying. No matter the age of the child, bullying destroys self esteem, dreams, and freedom to be happy at school and learn to the best of one's capabilities. Her dream and heartfelt passion is to be able to make a difference for every child and adult that reads her books and uses the activities to personally insure the message is not only understood, but taken to heart.
Mary Garibay lives in San Marcos, Texas with her husband, two grown children, three dogs and two cats. She graduated from New Mexico State University with a Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. She is currently a Bilingual Elementary school teacher, and an adjunct professor of art. Her lifelong dream of illustrating children's books has begun with the "Rena Series." Mary's creative energy comes from working with children, gardening and using nature and animals as her inspiration.
