The narrator investigates the deeper causes of her twin sister's accidental death from a violent head-on car collision. Discovering a family history that had been mostly unknown to her and her sister, she traces their birth from nineteenth century Irish and Welsh immigration to the dwindling farming communities of Iowa after the Depression and finally to the suburbs of Houston during the 70's and 80's.
