The English Bible Translations and History is a study of the translations of the Bible from the time of Jerome (405 AD) to the publication in 1611 of the Authorized Version. It covers the Reformation in England, the reigns of King Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth, legislation during this period, plus a study of the historical, political, and theological problems relating to Rome and to the Non-Conformists. It treats the development of the Vulgate plus the translations of John Wycliffe, William Tyndale, the Coverdale Bible, the Great Bible, the Bishops' Bible, the Geneva Bible, the Matthews' Bible, the Rheims-Douay Bible, and the Bible of Richard Challoner in 1750.
