Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum, Fascicule 19: Winchester College (Hardcover)

Winchester College's fine collection of more than 80 classical Greek vases is catalogued in this latest CVA fascicule, with many of the pieces published for the first time. This is the first fascicule in the series that gives access to a collection in a British public school. Among the Athenian vases are a beautiful black figure hydra with Herakles and Cerberus from the Canino collection, the Winchester Painter's eponymous cup, and vases attributed to the Berlin Painter and the classical Washing Painter. A fine selection of vases from Corinth includes an unbroken red figure pelike. In addition to these the college holds an unpublished Etruscan amphora of the Orvieto Group, Lucanian and Apulian vases, and an impressive collection of Cypriot pottery.
