What does it mean to be black? Have you ever thought about it? If youare not of dark-skinned African-American descent, maybe youave never had a reason to think about it. If you are, however, youare reminded of it constantly, whether you like it that way or not. Seems logical, doesnat it, that the definition of blackness comes from someone who has lived the experience and understands its intricacies well enough to express them in verse, from a variety of topics?
