Why not make this Psalm, as often as you take it on your lips, an especial prayer against that? Like the Lord's Prayer, it is good for all manner of sickness, and all manner of disease: like the leaves of the Tree of Life, the words of this Psalm are for the healing of the nations. Suppose now that any one of you was conscious to herself that she was discouraged, out of heart, unable to act out that command, --" Be strong and of a good courage: be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed," (we must all sometimes feel so: I am sure that I speak for myself as much as for you, ) how mould we use this Psalm? Take the same portion again: and behold, that which a little while ago seemed to speak to us of nothing but our Lord's Birth, and then of His Passion, and then of His coming to us in the Blessed Sacrament, now speaks to us of our own especial need, as if it had been written for that, and for that alone. "Teach me, O Lord, the way of Thy statutes: and I shall keep it unto the end: " that is, that if He teaches us, if He leads us, then, spite of all discouragements, trials, afflictions, keep His paths we shall, we must, so to speak, we cannot help it. In the very next verse: "Yea, I shall keep it with my whole heart." Again: "Take away the rebuke that I am afraid of: " the continual falls which Satan is so ready to upbraid us with, and to rebuke us for; "And I will walk at liberty: " without these continual fears, without these cares and perplexities, a liberty, here the foretaste of that glorious liberty of the sons of God, --a liberty leading up to that Jerusalem...
