Familq of John Patton, Son of Joseph John Patton, third child of Joseph and Anna, born May 12, 1824, was a farmer and also a cabinet maker and made bureaus and cupboards and bedsteads and other articles of household furniture. He also made coffins and buried people. He served as ceptain in the militia by reason of which he was usually called Captain John. He was tall and muscular and a man of fine physique. He was for many years a ruling elder in the Mt. Vernon church. He lived and died on a farm north of Statesville. He married Rhoda Cassity. Their children were Mary Jane, born Jan. 18, 1848. Thomas Donald, born March 10, 1849. Nancy Parthena, born May 31, 1851. Elizabeth Frances, born March 14, 1853. Sion Bass, born April 15, 1855, died October 14, 1860. Martha Ann, born Sept. 10, 1857. Sallie, born Feb. 24, 1863, died July 24, 1878. Rhoda Patton died February 12, 1878. John Patton married Mary Jane Wamack 1878. To whom was born one child, Octie Lee, born July 22, 1880. Of these children, Mary Jane, the oldest, married William Carroll Talley September 17, 1867. They had children as follows, Willie, born August 23, 1868. John G., born October 30, 1870. D. Talley, born September 15, 1873. Maggie, born January 29, 1882, died September 3, 1899. Effie born January 26, 1877, died July 2, 1886. Mary Jane and W. C. lived near Statesville. William Carroll and Mary Jane are both dead. Of their children, Willie married Dora Sherrill December 24, 1890. To them were born children as follows, Lucile, born April 13, 1892. Earle, born June 23, 1893. Fred, born October 21, 1894, died Aug. 13, 1903. Of these Earl Talley married Minnie Vaught, May 3, 1916. To them was born Doyle Talley, born August 28, 1917.
