On account of the improved breeding there has been an active demand for pigs, which at times has been greater than we could supply. There has been realized from the sale of hogs during the period the sum of $1862.42. The herd now numbers eighty-nine, valued at $1300. The dairy herd is composed of high-grade Holsteins with a few registered stock. Within the last year or two some of the older and less valuable cows have been sold, and in October, 1913, we furnished sixteen heifers to the new State Hospital at Larned for its dairy. The herd is in excellent condition and free from disease. In June, 1913, sixty-five head were given the tuberculin test by order of and under the direction of the State Live Stock Commission. The test was made in a thorough manner by a veterinary of recognized standing not connected with the institution in any way. Not a single animal showed any evidence of tuberculosis. During the two years covered by this report there has been produced $12,596.40 worth of milk, and $2031 has been realized from the sale of cattle. The herd now numbers seventy-four head, having a value of $5840. I feel that much credit for the success of these industries is due to Mr. Harvey, the steward, who has given a great deal of time and attention to the live stock. GROUNDS. In spite of the fact that the summer of 1913 was extremely hot and dry, and the present season has been only a little less so, there has been considerable improvement made in the appearance of the lawns.
