Mrs. Lucy Bethia (Colquhoun) Walford (1845-1915) was a Scottish author who wrote 45 books, the majority of them were "light-hearted domestic comedies." When writing, she would seek to be as accurate as possible. Her brothers were sought out to answer any questions she had on military life. Her works include: Mr. Smith: A Part of His Life (1875), Pauline (1877), Troublesome Daughters (1880), The History of a Week (1886), The One Good Guest (1892), The Matchmaker (1894) and The Enlightenment of Olivia (1907).
