La Clemenza DI Tito (Paperback)

Commissioned to write "La Clemenza di Tito" for the coronation of the soon-to-be-emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Leopold II, Mozart composed the opera during the same climactic period in which he completed the "Requiem" and "The Magic Flute." With a libretto by Metastasio based on incidents in the life of the Roman emperor Titus, "La Clemenza" was first performed in Prague in September 1791, a few months before Mozart's death. Long neglected, this masterpiece is once again a popular favorite of opera audiences worldwide.
